Conservatory student Grace Stanke named Miss Teen Wisconsin

September 27, 2017

Grace Stanke at a recent Golden Kiwanis Club Meeting

Hello! My name is Grace Stanke, and I am proud to have been recently honored with the title of Miss Wisconsin’s Outstanding Teen 2017. In the Miss Wisconsin’s Outstanding Teen Competition, one of the phases of competition is talent. I have been playing the violin for eight years, six of which have been spent at the Wausau Conservatory of Music. At the local, state, and national competitions, I performed my arrangement of Vivaldi’s “Winter.” In addition to talent, I also competed in interview, lifestyle and fitness, scholastic achievement, and evening gown and onstage question. During interview, I was asked questions relating to my platform, current events, and my ambitions, from all five judges over a timespan of eight minutes. In lifestyle and fitness, I performed an athletic routine onstage. For scholastic achievement, my transcripts and academic involvement was submitted. In the final phase of competition, I was able to go onstage in the gown of my dreams while exuding confidence and answered one question. Through each of these phases of competition, the judges were able to select a new Miss Wisconsin’s Outstanding Teen 2017 to represent the state at the national competition.

During my year as Miss Wisconsin’s Outstanding Teen, I plan on utilizing social media to promote our sponsors and thank them. I will also speak at schools around the state about my platform, Circles of Support, which is about securing the familial support of a cancer patient. With the students across the state, I plan on making care packages with tie blankets and other comfort items for cancer patients staying in hospitals. Some items inside the care packages are sponsored by businesses across the nation.

After my year of service is complete, I hope to be accepted and attend the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. I plan on double majoring in Applied Mathematics and Nuclear Engineering, to then go on to research the use of nuclear power and adding it into our everyday lives as a replacement to natural fuels. Thanks to the scholarships I have earned through the Miss Wisconsin’s Outstanding Teen Organization, I will be able to attend college with a little less worry about student debt. My violin will stay by my side through it all, and I will continue performing and improving my violin skills as a hobby.

I wouldn’t have been able to be where I am today without the Wausau Conservatory of Music. I thank them for all the lessons, orchestra sessions, camps, and performances I have had throughout the years with them. My life has truly been changed thanks to my violin and the Conservatory. I look forward to the years in the future to continue learning and working towards mastering the violin.
