Music Appreciation Classes

Our Music Appreciation classes are designed to give the student an appreciation of music by exposing them to many musical styles, composers, historical trends, as well as increasing their aural, verbal and writing skills in describing music. Sharpen your knowledge and enrich your listening experiences.

Fall 2021 Classes will be held in person at WCM, with the option to Zoom in virtually.

All classes are 3-weeks and take place on Mondays from 6:30-8pm.

The Genius of Mendelssohn | Begins Jan. 24

Aside from being one of the great “wunderkinds” in music, we are most indebted to Felix Mendelssohn for the revival of J.S. Bach’s music in the early 19th Century. In this class we will explore the masterpieces and genius of this great artist.

Handel in London | Begins Feb. 14

Though Handel was a native German, he spent most of his life in England and was adopted by this country as one of its greatest composers. Join us to survey the great masterpieces of music composed during his golden years in London.

The Genius of Schumann | Begins March 7

3-weeks on Mondays, 6:30-8:00 p.m.

Though considered one of the great composers of Western music, Robert Schumann’s talent was quite underestimated. Under the encouragement and influence of his gifted wife, Clara, they are considered one of the “power” couples in Classical music. Come and explore the musical wonders that this Romantic icon created.
